Neden Koşuyorum

When I registered to run the 15K race as part of the Istanbul Marathon, I expected it to be the highlight of this racing season. But a small, silly injury a few weeks prior meant that racing was no longer an option.

It was then that a friend and a fellow runner suggested that I join the Adım Adım charity group running the 15K distance to help raise funds for motorized wheelchairs.

We are going to be running in teams of 6, each team supporting a person in a wheelchair, who is going to cover these 15 kilometers with us.

The project is coordinated by TOFD, a Turkish association that works with individuals who experienced spinal cord injury.

The price of a single motorized wheelchair is 3,250 Turkish Lira (just over 1,100 USD). The value of this chair is immense, as it increases mobility for individuals who are unable to use a manual wheelchair and would be fully dependent on others otherwise.

With a goal like this, it looks like the Istanbul Marathon is going to be the highlight of the racing season, after all!
